H Χέδερ Μόρρις γεννήθηκε στην Νέα Ζηλανδία και κατοικεί στην Αυστραλία. Εργαζόμενη επί χρόνια σε ένα μεγάλο νοσοκομείο της Μελβούρνης, μελετούσε και έγραφε παράλληλα σενάρια, ένα από τα οποία μάλιστα είχε επιλεγεί από κάποιον βραβευμένο με Όσκαρ Αμερικανό σεναριογράφο. Το 2003, σύστησαν την Χέδερ σε έναν ηλικιωμένο κύριο ο οποίος "είχε μια ιστορία που ίσως άξιζε να ειπωθεί". Η γνωριμία της με τον Λάλε Σοκολόφ άλλαξε τη ζωή και των δυο τους. Η φιλία τους άνθισε και ο Λάλε εμπιστεύτηκε στην Χέδερ τις πιο προσωπικές λεπτομέρειες της ζωής του κατά το Ολοκαύτωμα.
