Ο Μητροπολίτης Ιερόθεος Σ. Βλάχος γεννήθηκε στα Ιωάννινα το 1945 και αποφοίτησε από την Θεολογική Σχολή του Α.Π. Θεσσαλονίκης. Χειροτονήθηκε ιερέας το 1971. Υπηρέτησε σαν Ιεροκήρυκας στη Μητρόπολη Εδέσσης Πέλλης και Αλμωπίας και αργότερα στην Αρχιεπισκοπή Αθηνών όπου ήταν και υπεύθυνος Νεότητος. Εκλέχθηκε Μητροπολίτης Ναυπάκτου και Αγίου Βλασίου το 1995. Δίδαξε Ελληνικά για αρκετά Εξάμηνα και έδωσε διαλέξεις περί Ορθοδόξου Ηθικής στους φοιτητές της Θεολογικής Σχολής του Αγίου Ιωάννη του Δαμασκηνού στο Πανεπιστήμιο του Πατριαρχείου Αντιοχείας στο βόρειο Λίβανο. Από τα φοιτητικά του χρόνια ενδιαφερόταν ιδιαίτερα για τους Πατέρες της Εκκλησίας, εργάστηκε για ένα διάστημα σε βιβλιοθήκες μοναστηριών του Αγίου Όρους, σε καταγραφή κωδίκων. Ιδιαίτερα εντρύφησε στη διδασκαλία του Αγίου Γρηγορίου του Παλαμά. Η μελέτη των πατερικών κειμένων και κυρίως των ησυχαστών Πατέρων της Φιλοκαλίας, η επί σειρά ετών μελέτη του Αγίου Γρηγορίου του Παλαμά, η επικοινωνία με τους μοναχούς του Αγίου Όρους, και η μακρόχρονη ποιμαντική του πείρα, τον οδήγησαν στη βεβαιότητα ότι η Ορθόδοξη Θεολογία είναι επιστήμη που θεραπεύει τον άνθρωπο και ότι οι νηπτικοί Πατέρες μπορούν να βοηθήσουν τον σύγχρονο άνθρωπο που ταλαιπωρήται από πολλά εσωτερικά και εξωτερικά προβλήματα. Με αυτό το πνεύμα έγραψε πλήθος βιβλίων, καταστάλαγμα πολύχρονης ποιμαντικής πείρας, σχετικά με την " Ορθόδοξη Ψυχοθεραπεία " . Μερικά από τα βιβλία του έχουν μεταφραστεί σε διάφορες γλώσσες όπως Αγγλικά, Αραβικά, Γαλλικά, Ισπανικά, Ρωσσικά, Σερβικά.Με το έργο του μεταφέρει το Ορθόδοξο πνεύμα της Φιλοκαλίας στον ταλαιπωρημένο άνθρωπο της εποχής μας. Και αυτός είναι ο λόγος που προκαλεί τόσο μεγάλο ενδιαφέρον το έργο του. |
